In 2010, Richard Lavin founded LEVERAGEDWISDOM™, providing owners of privately held businesses, peer-­to-­peer learning and one-to-one coaching for high-performance leadership. LEVERAGEDWISDOM is dedicated to increasing members’ effectiveness as leaders, improving the equity value of their businesses and enhancing their lives. Consequently, there has been $750 million of liquidity events among LEVERAGEDWISDOM members.

Formerly, as co-founder and partner, Richard created TIGER 21, the pre­eminent national peer-­to-­peer learning organization for high-net-worth investors. TIGER 21 provides members a methodology and learning process for exploring investment alternatives and increasing their effectiveness as managers of their asset allocation.    

From 1994 through 2004, as chairman, he led Vistage (TEC) 333, a New York City based peer-­to-­peer learning group for high-performing CEOs.    

During a 40-year career as a serial entrepreneur, Richard built, ran and sold several businesses, including a real estate brokerage practice, a chain of women’s clothing stores (Stuff to Wear), a restaurant company with multiple properties (Lavin’s, Sofi, Plum’s, Black Tie Box Lunch), a celebrated wine school (Académie du Vin), and a hospitality consulting practice.   

As a mentor/ coach/ entrepreneur, Richard has been a guest speaker at Columbia University Graduate School for Business, the University of South Florida Graduate School for Business, Nova University, Culinary Institute of America, DreamIt, RSM (McGladrey), Business Owners’ Exchange for Bank of New York Mellon, Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), and VISTAGE.      

Richard has been a trustee of the James Beard Foundation, a board member of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Wine & Food, a member of the Restaurant Committee of Meals­ on ­Wheels (NYC), and remains a trustee emeritus of the Culinary Institute of America.    

Currently, he is an advisory board member for MILLY, SunLogistics, RemedyOrganics and LogicPrep.

Richard has often been quoted and written about peer-­to-­peer learning, including a treatise co­-authored for the Journal of Wealth Management titled, “Peer-­to-­Peer Groups: A New Model for the High-Net-Worth Investors.” His comments on the process of peer-­to­-peer learning have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, BusinessWeek, Fortune, The New York Times, Barron’s, The New York Enterprise Report, and The Palm Beach Daily News. He is frequently called upon by the media as an export source in this subject area.    

As a restaurateur, his restaurants and wine school were often pictured, written about, and reviewed in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Gourmet, Food & Wine, Forbes, Esquire, Interior Design, Der Spiegel, and Town & Country. He also contributed recipes and commentary for several cookbooks and wrote extensively on wine in several editions of The Great American Vineyard Datebook.

Richard received a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He practices in New York and Florida.
